Wikipedia says if a disaster occurred, this would result in tons of trash dispersing throughout the surrounding areas and should this trash not be cleared up immediately it will result in the spreading of serious diseases. For instance in many third world countries, there are serious water and land pollution issues, which has resulted from tons of trash being spread all over the land area, and when there are heavy rains this trash then finds its way in rivers and from the rivers into the ocean.
